How to Create and Use Links

Learn how to create links in Kitchen to quickly access external websites and resources from your workspace.

Written by Denitsa Zhelyazkova

Links allow you to add shortcuts to external websites and resources directly to your Kitchen workspace.

Unlike embeds which are displayed inside Kitchen, links always open in a new browser tab when selected, making them ideal for websites or applications that don't support embedding or when you prefer to work outside of Kitchen.

If you'd like to display third-party content directly inside your workspace instead, see How to Create and Use Embeds.

Creating a Link

You can create a new link in several ways.

Option 1: From the “+” Button in the Sidebar

You can create a new link from anywhere in your workspace using the + button at the top of the sidebar.

  1. Click the + button.

  2. Choose Link.

This opens the link creation window, where you can:

  • Enter a name

  • Add a URL

  • Add a description (optional)

  • Choose a General Access setting (Private, Shared with Clients, or Internal)

With the Internal setting, you can also assign a role to internal users.

After clicking Save, the link will appear at the top of your items list in the sidebar.

Option 2: From the Create Button Inside an Existing Folder

You can create a link inside an existing folder using the Create button.

  1. Open the folder.

  2. Click Create.

  3. Choose Link.

This opens the same creation window described above.

Note: By default, the new link will use the same General Access setting as the parent folder.

If you keep this setting, the link will also inherit access for all users already added to the parent folder.

Option 3: From the “+” Button Next to a Folder's Name in the Sidebar

You can also create a link by hovering over a folder in the sidebar and clicking the + button next to it.

  1. Hover over the folder.

  2. Click the + button.

  3. Choose Link.

The link will be created inside the selected folder.

The same rules apply as in Option 2 regarding access settings and inherited users.

Managing Links

Most link management options are available from the link's three-dot menu in the sidebar.

Edit

Update the link's:

You can select from:

  • An image added via URL or pasted directly from your clipboard

For best results, use a small square image when uploading a custom icon.

Access & Users

This opens the familiar Share window, where you can:

  • Share the link with clients, companies, and team members

  • Create a public link

  • Manage user permissions

Move
