How to Create and Use Embeds

Learn the different ways to create and use embeds for your third-party apps and websites.

Written by Denitsa Zhelyazkova

Embeds allow you to add third-party applications and websites directly into your Kitchen workspace, making it easier to access external tools without leaving Kitchen.

Supported Content

Embeds can be used to display many third-party applications and websites directly inside Kitchen.

Common examples include:

  • YouTube videos

  • Loom videos

  • Notion pages

  • Google Docs

  • Google Sheets

  • Calendly pages

  • Dashboards and reporting tools

  • Other websites that support embedding

Once added, the content can be viewed directly from Kitchen without opening a separate browser tab.

Some embedded services may require users to sign in before their content can be viewed. In these cases, viewers may be prompted to log in to the third-party service even when the embed loads successfully.

Note: Some websites do not allow their content to be embedded on external platforms. If you see a message such as "Refused to Connect", this restriction is controlled by the website itself and cannot be overridden by Kitchen.

Tip: Some embedded services may require users to sign in before their content can be viewed. In these cases, viewers may be prompted to log in to the third-party service even when the embed loads successfully.

Creating an Embed

You can create an embed in several ways.

Option 1: From the “+” Button in the Sidebar

You can create a new embed from anywhere in your workspace using the + button at the top of the sidebar.

  1. Click the + button.

  2. Select More.

  3. Choose Embed.

This opens the embed creation window, where you can:

  • Enter a name

  • Add a URL to the third-party application or website

  • Add a description (optional)

  • Select the "Show 'Open in a New Window' button" option

  • Choose a General Access setting (Private, Shared with Clients, or Internal)

With the Internal setting, you can also assign a role to internal users.

After clicking Save, the embed will appear at the top of your items list in the sidebar.

Option 2: From the Quick Access Buttons on the Home Page

You can also create an embed from the quick access buttons at the bottom of the Home page.

  1. Click New Embed.

  2. Complete the embed details.

Once created, the embed will appear at the top of your sidebar.

Option 3: From the Create Button Inside an Existing Folder

You can create an embed inside an existing folder using the Create button.

  1. Open the folder.

  2. Click Create.

  3. Choose Embed.

This opens the same embed creation window described above.

Note: By default, the new embed will use the same General Access setting as the parent folder.

If you keep this setting, the embed will also inherit access for all users already added to the parent folder.

You can change the access level if needed and decide who to share the embed with.

Option 4: From the “+” Button Next to a Folder’s Name in the Sidebar

You can also create an embed by hovering over a folder in the sidebar and clicking the + button next to it.

  1. Hover over the folder.

  2. Click the + button.

  3. Choose Embed.

The embed will be created inside the selected folder.

The same rules apply as in Option 3 regarding access settings and inherited users.

Viewing and Managing Embeds

When viewing an embed, you'll find several options available directly from the page.

In the top left you can:

Change the Embed Icon

Choose a custom icon for the embed to make it easier to identify in your workspace.

You can select from:

  • An image added via URL or pasted directly from your clipboard

For best results, use a small square image when uploading a custom icon.
