Boards: Navigating Kanban View

This guide explains how to navigate and use the Kanban view in boards.

Written by Denitsa Zhelyazkova

Boards in Kitchen offer three different views — Kanban, Table, and Calendar — allowing you to manage your work in the way that suits you best. This article focuses on the Kanban view. We will cover the other views in different articles.

The Kanban view provides a visual, column-based layout where tasks are organized into lists. This makes it easy to track progress, move tasks between stages, and get a clear overview of your workflow at a glance.

Working with Tasks and Lists

In Kanban view, you can easily move tasks and organize your board using drag-and-drop actions.

  • Drag and drop tasks between lists to update their status

  • Drag and drop entire lists to reorder them on the board

You can add new lists in a couple of ways:

  • Click the + button to the right of the last list to add a new list at the end

  • Double-click in the empty space below, between two lists, to quickly create a new list in that position.

You can collapse lists to create a more compact and minimal view of your board.

  • Hover over a list

  • Select Collapse list next to the three-dot menu

To expand it again just click the Expand list button

Filtering Tasks

You can filter tasks in Kanban view to quickly find what you need.

To access filters, use the Filter option at the top right of the board.

Search Tasks

  • Start typing in the search bar to find tasks by title

  • Results appear instantly as you type

  • Click the X icon to clear the search input

Suggested Filters

Suggested filters allow you to instantly narrow down tasks based on common criteria. Available options include:

  • Assigned to me – tasks where you are a member

  • Due today – tasks with a due date set for today

  • Overdue – tasks with a due date in the past

  • Repeating – tasks with a repeating schedule set

  • Incomplete – all tasks that are not in the Done column

Members Filter

Members filter allows you to narrow down tasks based on assigned members. You can choose from the following options:

  • Each team member has a checkbox to filter tasks they are assigned to

  • Unassigned – shows tasks with no members assigned

Fields Filter

You can filter tasks based on specific fields:

  • Due Date. Available options include:

    • Today

    • This week

    • This month

    • Is past

    • Is empty

    • Custom (select a date from the calendar)

  • Start Date

    • Same filtering options as Due Date

  • Label

    • Filter tasks by specific labels assigned to them

You can reset all selected filters at any time using the Reset button in the filter menu at the top right, next to the X icon.
