How to Customize Boards

This guide explains all the ways to customize the appearance of your boards.

Boards in Kitchen can be customized to match your visual preferences and suit your workflow.

Below, you’ll find all available customization options.


Customizing the Board Icon

You can change the board’s icon to make it easier to recognize.

There are several ways to do this:

  1. Open the board and click the icon to the left of its title

  2. Open the board settings (gear icon) and select Customize Icon

  3. Hover over the board in the sidebar, click the three-dot menu, and select Customize Icon

  4. From a folder, hover over the board, open the three-dot menu, and select Customize Icon

From there, you can:

  • Choose from the existing icons

  • Change the icon color

  • Change the icon’s style (switch between outlined and filled styles)

  • Use an emoji

  • Upload an image

  • Add an image from a URL

  • Paste an image directly using Ctrl/Cmd + V

Tip

Small square images work best for icons.


Renaming a Board

You can also rename a board in several ways:

  1. Click directly on the board title while in it, edit it, and press Enter or click outside to save

  2. Open board settings (gear icon), click Edit, and update its name and description

  3. From the sidebar, hover over the board, click Edit, and update its name and description

  4. From a folder, hover over the board, open the three-dot menu, and click Edit to change the name and description.


Customizing Board Colors and Background

To change the board’s appearance, click Board Colors (the bucket icon) next to the board title.

From there, you can:

  1. Change the board background color by choosing one of the pre-displayed system colors, or clicking the three-dot menu to open the color picker, where you can select a custom color using HEX, RGB, or HSL values and manage saved colors.

  2. Set a default color for all lists by clicking on List in the Elements section

  3. Set a default color for all tasks by clicking on Task in the Elements section

  4. Add a background image by:

    • Uploading from your computer

    • Adding an image from a URL

    • Pasting an image using Ctrl/Cmd + V

    • Searching for photos from Unsplash


Customizing Lists and Tasks Individually

You can further customize lists and tasks for better visual organization.

You can change the color of each list individually, update the color of all tasks within a specific list at once, or customize the background color of individual tasks.

To change the background color of a list:

  • Open the three-dot menu at the top of the list

  • Choose a system color or click the three-dot menu to open the full color picker with additional options

To change the color of all tasks in a list:

  • Open the three-dot menu at the top of the list

  • Select Change Tasks Color

  • Choose a system or custom color

To change the color of a single task:

  • Hover over the task and open the three-dot menu

  • Choose one of the displayed system colors or click the three-dot menu to open the full color picker with additional options

To change the list title background color:

  • Open the three-dot menu at the top of the list

  • Select Edit Title, where you can rename the list and change its title background color

  • Choose a system or custom color

Note

Changes to board colors and background are visible to all users who have access to the board.


Choosing Visible Task Fields

You can control which system and custom fields are visible on task cards.

To do this, use the Toggle Card Fields button (the rectangle button to the right of the board title).

From there, select which fields should be visible or hidden using the checkboxes.

Note

These settings apply only to you. Other users can configure their own view independently.
