Once you have a folder, you can upload files to it directly from your computer or external services.
Here you can learn more about uploading files to folders in Kitchen - How to Upload Files to Folders.
You can then manage these files, share them, and collaborate with others by leaving feedback directly on them.
Managing Files
Once files are uploaded to a folder, you can access their additional options by hovering over them.
From there, you can:
Select files by clicking the checkbox to the left of their name
Download them
Rename
Move them by choosing a destination folder from the list or using the search bar
Copy a link to the file
Create and manage a public link to the file to share with non-Kitchen users - anyone with this link can view and download the file.
You can also set a passcode for users to gain access to the file.Lock files with payment
Remove the files. Deleted files don't go to Trash; they are permanently deleted from the workspace.
Locking Files with Payment
You can restrict access to a file until a client completes a payment. To do this, select Lock with payment and choose an invoice from the dropdown.
After saving, the client will not be able to access the file until the invoice is paid. Once the payment is completed, the file is automatically unlocked, and the client can access it.
Using the File Preview (Modal)
Clicking on a file opens the file preview, where you can:
Download the file
Rename it by clicking its name at the top
View additional file details (type, size, author, upload date, folder) when hovering over the file's name
Adjust the zoom level using the controls
Show or hide the comments panel from the chat bubble icon. You can also hide comments through the double arrow in the top-right corner of the file modal. When comments are hidden, a small badge with a number appears on the chat bubble icon, indicating how many active comments are left on the file.
Approve the file via the Approve button or the file settings
Note
Leaving a new comment on the file automatically opens the side comment panel.
You can also access the additional options from the Settings button (gear icon) to rename, move, download, copy link, create and manage a public link, approve, lock with payment, and delete.
Commenting on Files
To leave feedback on a file, click anywhere on the file preview. This creates a comment point where you can type and submit your comment.
After submitting, each comment appears as a numbered marker on the file and is listed in the comments panel. Each comment shows its author, the time when it was left (with date details when you hover over), and where exactly in the file the comment was left.
Within the list with comments, you can use:
• Comment replies:
Reply to comments by hovering over them and using the reply button, clicking on a marker on the file, or directly on a comment from the comment panel.
When replying, you can switch between writing a regular message (visible to clients and team members) or a note (visible only to team members).
You can also add images from your computer, insert GIFs, use the three-dot menu to insert emojis, quotes, code snippets, bullet and number lists, headings, and horizontal rules.
Additionally, you can use saved replies as well.
• @mentions:
Mention users (added to the file’s folder) in replies using @ and selecting their name from the list, to notify them and keep communication focused.
• Resolve comments
When a discussion is completed, you can mark a comment as resolved using the button that appears when you hover over the comment.
Resolved comments are removed from the file preview and their marker turns green, but they can still be accessed using the filter icon.
• Filter comments
You can use the Filter button (funnel icon) to filter comments by Status - Open and Resolved, and you can also filter comments by Author - Anyone, Client, or Member.
• Additional options:
The options to Edit, Copy a link to, or Delete comments can be accessed from the three-dot menu when you hover over a comment.
Disabling Comments for a Folder
You can disable commenting for all files in a folder.
To do this, open the folder and click the Settings button (gear icon, top-right corner of the folder), then select Disable Comments.
Note
This setting applies only to the selected folder. Subfolders have their own separate settings.
Approving Files
Files can also be approved by clients or team members using the Approve button.
Once approved:
The file receives a green Approved label
You receive a notification if enabled in your notification settings (Profile → Notifications)
This makes it easier to track which files are finalized.
Disabling Approvals for a Folder
Similar to commenting, you can disable approvals for all files in a folder from Settings → Disable Approvals.
Note
This setting applies only to the selected folder.
