How to Create Documents

Learn how to create documents in Kitchen and organize them within your workspace.

Written by Denitsa Zhelyazkova

Documents allow you to create rich text content directly inside Kitchen, making them ideal for meeting notes, project documentation, internal knowledge bases, checklists, and more so everything stays organized in one place.

Documents support the same sharing and access permissions as other Kitchen resources, making it easy to collaborate with team members and clients.

You can create a new document in several ways.

Option 1: From the “+” Button in the Sidebar

You can create a new document from anywhere in your workspace using the + button at the top of the sidebar.

  1. Click the + button.

  2. Choose Document.

This opens the document creation window, where you can:

  • Enter a name

  • Add a description (optional)

  • Choose a General Access setting (Private, Shared with Clients, or Internal)

With the Internal setting, you can also assign a role to internal users.

To learn more about access levels, see Access Levels and Resource Permissions in Kitchen.

After clicking Save, the document will appear at the top of your sidebar.

Option 2: From the Quick Access Buttons on the Home Page

You can also create a document using the quick Create access buttons at the bottom of the Home page.

Click Document to open the same creation window described above.

Option 3: From the Create Button Inside an Existing Folder

You can create a document inside an existing folder.

  1. Open the folder.

  2. Click Create.

  3. Choose Document.

This opens the same creation window.

Note: By default, the new document inherits the General Access setting of its parent folder.

If you keep this setting, everyone who already has access to the folder will also have access to the document.

You can change the access level if needed and choose a different set of users.

Option 4: From the “+” Button Next to a Folder in the Sidebar

  1. Hover over a folder in the sidebar and click the + button.

  2. Select Document.

The document will be created inside the selected folder.

The same inheritance rules described in Option 3 apply.
