Repeating tasks allow you to automatically create recurring tasks for work that happens on a regular basis, such as weekly check-ins, monthly reports, reminders, or recurring client work.
How Repeating Tasks Work
When a new task is created from a repeating task:
Comments and activity logs are not copied over
Task details like members, labels, lists, and other task information remain available
This helps each repeated task start clean without previous discussions or activity history attached.
Setting up a Repeating Task
There are two ways to create a repeating task:
Option 1:
Hover over a task in a list
Click the three-dot menu
Select Repeat
Option 2:
Open the task
Click the Repeat button below the task title
You can configure the following settings for the repeating schedule:
Choose the frequency: weekly or monthly
Select the specific day and time for the repeat to happen
Set how often the task repeats (for example: every week, every 2 weeks, etc.)
Choose which list the repeated task should appear in
Choose whether the repeated task should be added to the top or bottom of the selected list. All available lists from the current board will appear in the list selection dropdown.
Once saved, a Repeat icon will appear on the task. Hovering over the icon will show when the next repeat is scheduled.
You can also use the Repeating filter in boards to quickly display all tasks with an active repeating schedule.
Repeating Tasks with Due Dates
If the original task has a due date set, newly created repeated tasks will also automatically receive due dates that follow the same scheduling pattern as the original task.
Weekly Repeating Tasks with Due Dates
For weekly repeating tasks, each new task keeps the same weekday pattern as the original task while following the configured repeat interval.
For example:
Original task due date: Friday, September 5
Repeat schedule: Every Monday
The newly created repeated task will receive a due date of Friday, September 12.
Monthly Repeating Tasks with Due Dates
For monthly repeating tasks, the same day-of-month pattern is preserved whenever possible.
For example:
Original task due date: Sunday, May 10
Repeat schedule: Monthly on the 1st day of the month
The next repeated task created on June 1 will receive a due date of Sunday, June 7, preserving the same weekly pattern from the original task.
If a month is shorter (such as February), the due date will automatically adjust to the closest valid date within that month.
Removing a Repeating Schedule
