Folders in Kitchen can be fully customized to match your workflow and visual preferences. Below, you will find everything that you can adjust.

Customize Your Folder Icon

You can easily change your folder icon to make it more recognizable.

Option 1:

  1. Open your folder

  2. Click on the folder icon on the left of the title.

From here, you can:

  • Choose from existing icons

  • Change the icon color

  • Use an emoji

  • Upload your own image

  • Add an image from a URL

  • Paste an image directly using Ctrl/Cmd + V

👉 Small square images work best for icons.

Option 2:

Another way to update the icon is from the sidebar.

  1. Hover over the folder name.

  2. Click the three dots menu.

  3. Select Customize Icon.

Add a Cover Image

Cover images help you visually personalize your folder. To add or change a cover:

  1. Open the folder

  2. Click the Cover button (next to the folder title)

You can then:

  • Choose from pre-existing images

  • Search photos from Unsplash

  • Upload your own image

  • Add an image from a URL

  • Select the color option to use a solid background

  • Choose a size: none, smaller, or larger

Adjust Cover Size and Position

You can control how your cover looks:

  • Drag the bottom edge of the cover to adjust its height

  • Hover over the cover and click the small icon in the bottom-right corner

  • Drag to reposition the image

  • Click Save when you’re done

Rename a Folder

To rename your folder:

  1. Click directly on the folder title

  2. Edit the name

  3. Press Enter or click outside to save

Add or Edit Description

You can add more context to your folder using a description.

To do that, click the description icon (third icon on the right of the folder title).

Alternatively, you can edit both the folder name and description in one place:

  1. Go to the sidebar

  2. Click the three dots menu next to the folder

  3. Select Edit

Change Layout and Sorting

You can control how content inside the folder is displayed. To access these options:

  1. Click the Layout & Sort menu (top right, left of the Share button)

Layout Options

Choose how your items are displayed:

  • List

  • Small List

  • Grid

  • Large Grid

Sorting Options

Sorting depends on the selected layout. Available options include:

  • Position

  • Name

  • Created Date

  • Kind

  • Visibility

  • Author

When sorting:

  • An upward arrow means ascending order

  • Click the same option again to switch to descending order

Sorting from Column Headers

Additional controls appear located in the header row directly above your resources.

For List or Small List view, you will see clickable column labels such as Name and Created, which allow you to quickly sort your files.

  • Click Name to sort items alphabetically

  • Click Created to sort by creation date

  • Click the same label again to switch between ascending and descending order

On the right side of the column headers, you will find the Toggle Columns option. This allows you to control which additional columns are visible.

You can show or hide:

  • Kind

  • Visibility

  • Author

If you prefer a cleaner view, you can hide all optional columns and keep only the Name column visible.

You can also adjust the width of each column:

  • Hover between column headers to reveal the separators

  • When the resize cursor appears, click and drag to adjust the column width

For Grid or Large Grid view, sorting is handled differently.

  • The Visibility sorting option appears in the header above your resources

  • Clicking it allows you to choose between the available sorting options

  • You can also switch between ascending and descending order

This gives you full control over how much information is visible and how your content is displayed.

Note

Layout and sorting settings are personal. This means:

  • Your clients will not see the folder layout and sorting options the same way you do

  • They can customize their own view independently
