To receive notifications about a task, you need to be following it - either as a task member or as a follower - and have your notification settings enabled.
You can set this up in two simple steps:
Step 1: Make Sure You're Following Tasks
To receive updates about tasks, you need to either:
be assigned through the Members field in the task, or
be a task follower.
You can follow a task in one of the following ways:
Click the bell icon inside the task when you open it.
Open the gear icon inside the task modal and select Manage followers.
Note
It is not necessary to be a task member in order to receive notifications. Task members are responsible for working on the task, while followers simply receive updates about activity.
Task members are automatically added as followers of the task.
Follow Tasks by Default
If you want to stay informed about activity across every task in a board, you can automatically follow all newly created tasks. You can enable this setting from the board’s configuration:
Open the board.
Click the Settings button (gear icon) in the board header.
Select More Settings.
Enable:
Add team members as default participants - you will automatically be added as a follower to every new task in that board.
Notify team members when task is created (optional) - you will receive notifications for each newly created task.
When selecting the options, you can click on the button next to them to fine-tune which board members should receive these notifications.
Important
This setting is configured per board, so it needs to be enabled individually for each board where you want to receive notifications for all tasks.
Step 2: Configure Your Notification Preferences
The second step is to ensure your personal notification settings are enabled.
Click the profile icon in the top-right corner of your workspace.
Select Notifications.
Scroll to the Tasks section.
There, you can enable notifications for the task events that are relevant to you, with the following options available:
A new task is created
A new comment is posted
Someone mentions me
A task is assigned to me
A task is completed or reopened
A task is due
The task list is changed
For each event, you can choose how you would like to receive notifications:
Email
Desktop push notifications
Inbox notifications inside your workspace
You're All Set
Once your notification preferences are enabled and you are following tasks, you will start receiving updates about activity across those tasks.
