How to Set up a Custom Domain for Your Workspace

You can set a custom domain for your workspace so your portal URL appears under your own domain, for example: portal.yourwebsite.com

Once the domain is verified, your default Kitchen URL will automatically redirect to the custom one. The setup only takes a few steps.

Step 1 - Add your custom domain in Kitchen

  1. Go to Settings in your workspace.

  2. Click on GeneralCustom Domain.

  3. Click the edit icon.

  4. Enter your desired hostname (for example: portal.yourwebsite.com).

Make sure the hostname includes both your chosen subdomain (such as portal, clients, projects, etc.) and your main domain.

Step 2 - Verify the domain in your DNS settings

  1. Sign in to your domain provider (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Squarespace, etc.).

  2. Open your DNS settings.

  3. Add the following CNAME record:

Type: CNAME

Name / Host: portal.yourwebsite.com

Value / Data / Content: app.kitchen.co

TTL: Auto (or the lowest value available)

We automatically check these records every 5 minutes and will email you once the domain is verified.

Common issues and how to resolve them

1. CNAME Name / Host value

Some providers (for example, Squarespace or Cloudflare) require only the subdomain in the Name/Host field of the DNS record - for example, portal instead of portal.yourwebsite.com.

2. CNAME proxy settings

If the CNAME record is set to Proxied, change it to DNS only (non-proxied). Otherwise, the verification won’t go through.

3. Subdomain already in use

If you already have a CNAME record using the same subdomain (for example, clients.yourwebsite.com), you won’t be able to use it for your Kitchen domain.

Choose a different subdomain instead.

How long does verification take?

In most cases, verification takes 5-10 minutes once the DNS record is added.

If it doesn’t work immediately, DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate, depending on your provider.
